JESUS "DID NOT COME TO BRING PEACE" 4 "Do not think that I came
to bring peace on the earth;
I did not come to bring peace,
but a sword."
-Matthew 10:34, bold mine So, "How can 'the God of Peace' not come to bring peace?" First let's take a look at some more scripture: "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you, do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful."-John 14:27 Hmmm...it seems clear that the "Peace I leave with you" and the "Peace I give to you" is an INNER-PEACE that Jesus is refering to. "The things you have learned and received
and heard and seen in me,
practice these things, and
the God of peace will be with you."-Philippians 4:9, bold mine Again, the context of this statement by Paul, "The God of peace will be with you," is clearly speaking to theINNER-PEACE that comes with a right relationship with God (see Philippians 4:7-9). And so on. So as we can see, when it comes to a biblical study of "peace," we need to first discern whether or not the Bible is referring to an "inner peace," or an external "peace on the earth." On Monday we will conclude this study by grappling with three more verses: "For the kingdom of God is not
eating and drinking, but righteousness and
peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
-Romans 14:17, bold mine and, "Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called sons of God."
-Matthew 5:9, bold mine and, "If possible, so far as it depends on you,
be at peace with all men."-Romans 12:18, bold mine
