LEARNING FROM THE LEGENDS:
JOB
1"There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil." -Job 1:1, bold mine
An impressive description of Job, don't you think? What I find so significant here is that it seems clear that God wants us to know 1) How highly God esteems Job, and 2) The trials and suffering that Job went through were not the consequences of blatant sin. In fact, the responses that Job models throughout his adversity reveal a man of deep conviction and spiritual maturity.
After all that Job went through in Job Chapter 1, it was written of him,
"Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God."-Job 1:22
And in Chapter 2, after Job had been, "smitten with sore boils from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head," (v. 7), he responded,
"Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?” -Job 2:10
And then Job's classic sumation of his ongoing tribulation,
"Though He slay me, I will hope in Him." -Job 13:15
Pretty impressive, don't you think?
