LEARNING FROM THE LEGENDS: JOB
2
"Have you considered My servant Job..." -Job 1:8; 2:3
Many have missed this critical theological fact:
GOD INITIATED SATAN'S ATTACKS ON JOB!
Not once (Job 1:8), but twice (Job 2:3), God used the Devil to accomplish that which concerned Job:
"The Lord will accomplish what concerns me."-Psalm 138:8
Fairly mind boggling isn't it? Yet, consistent throughout all of scripture, "God tests the hearts of men"(Proverbs 17:3; see also Genesis 22:1).
"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing was happening to you."-1 Peter 4:12
One of the most astounding challenges in all of scripture, in my opinion, comes from Jesus' brother James:
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."-James 1:2-4
Surely, the travails of Job are mankind's most radical example?
