"The Wounds of Self-Affiction"

"They ambush their own lives.'"
Proverbs 1:18

I did that once.  Ambush my own life, I mean.  It's easy to do.  "He who sins against me (wisdom), injures himself (Proverbs 8:36).  No one ever begins drinking, for example, thinking they'll become an alcohoic...they just do.  Never once have I ever had a couple tell me at the beginning of their marriage that their goal in five years was to get divorced...but more than half wind up that way.

"He who neglects discipline despises himself."
Proverbs 15:32

There is a way which SEEMS right to a man...(see Proverbs 16:25).

Here's a key phrase worth remembering:

The only time God says to do something
is because He loves you.
And the only time He says not to do something
is because He knows it will hurt you.

Do you believe it?

"If It Makes You Happy..."

The chorus of yet another extremely popular song in the United States goes,

"If it makes you happy, it can't be that baaaaaad,
If it makes you happy, then why...are you soooo sad?"

Uhhh, I don't know, maybe it's because,

"There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" (Proverbs 16:25).

Or maybe it's because,

"You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes" (Deuteronomy 12:8).

Or because,

"They sow the wind, and they reap the WHIRLWIND" (Hosea 8:7).

Or,

"He who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality" ( Colossians 3:25 ).

...Ya' think?
