GodThoughtsWired!

The GodThoughts ANNUAL REPORT for 2006 is now available (see above, 3 DAYS LEFT!).

The Purpose Driven Life, by Dr. Rick Warren has become a global influential.  It's impact transcends the Church community as a significant portion of both the secular and the religious communities have embraced it.  Indeed, The Purpose Driven Life has become one of the best selling non-fiction books in the history of the universe, second only to the Bible.  As such, the next several GTW! entries will be devoted to an examintion of that which is helping to shape the perception of Christianity around the world.  This week:  "The Bright Side of...The Purpose Driven Life."

THE BRIGHT SIDE OF
..
"The Purpose Driven Life"
CONCLUSION:  LIFE IS A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT

"You are just a vapor that appears

for a little while and then vanishes away."
James 4:14

"Realizing that life on earth is just a temporary assignment should radically alter your values."  Right on, Rick!  Have you examined your "heavenly portfolio" lately?  I have a favorite saying that I have developed over the years, it goes like this:

LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS FAIR.
BUT GOD IS ALWAYS JUST...
AND HE HAS AN ETERNITY TO PROVE IT!

God views life through the eyes of eternity and that should be our goal as well.  Jesus said, "Do not lay up treasures for yourself on earth where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal; but rather, lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy and where thieves cannot break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:19-21).

The Bible warns that we (Christians) are aliens on this earth, foreigners (see 1 Peter 2:11).  And, you know, the older and closer I get to God, the more I feel like an alien, a visitor just passing through.  The Bible reminds us that our true citizenship is in Heaven.  The author of Hebrews summarizes the tragic story of Esau who "Sold his own birthright for a single meal" (Hebrews 12:16).  Can you imagine how devastating it would be to told on the "day of judgement" (see 1 Corinthians 3:11-16) that we had sacrificed "eternal riches" for the sake of temporary gain?  Jesus put it this way,

"What does it profit a man to gain the whole world
yet forfit his soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"
Mark 8:37

Remember:  The end of THIS life...is NOT the end of YOUR life.
