"The Key To Greatness!"

  IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD:  DAVID

"I have found David the son of Jesse,

A man after My heart, who will do all My will."

Acts 13:22 (bold mine)

The Bible tells us that David was a man "after God's own heart."  Amazing!  Isn't it?  Can you imagine being identified in such terms?  Could any man or woman EVER! receive a greater compliment?  Do you want to be a person "after God's own heart?"

"As for you (Solomon), if you walk before Me

as your father David walked, even to do according

to all that I have commanded you..."

2 Chronicles 7:17 (bold mine)

"As for you (Solomon), if you will walk before Me

as your father David walked, in integrity of heart

and uprightness doing according to all that I have

commanded you..."

1 Kings 9:4 (bold mine)

Do you see it?  Do you see "The Key to Greatness?"  David modeled for us what it truly means to "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness" (see Matthew 6:33).  David was willing to submit his will to the will of God.  Was David perfect?  Not by a long shot...

"David did what was right in the sight of the Lord,

and had not turned aside from anything that He

commanded him all the days of his life, except in the

case of Uriah the Hittite."

1 Kings 15:5 (bold mine)

Adultery, murder, envy, lust, deceit, King David had some significant "shortcomings."*  But when it came to his heart and his will, David's sincere desire was to serve and please the God that he worshipped.  On the other hand, Solomon...

"His (Solomon's) heart was not wholly devoted

to the Lord his God, like the heart of his father David."

1 Kings 15:3
