THE VALUES OF A
DYING GENERATION

HOWARD

"Honor widows who are widows indeed."-1 Timothy 5:3
We added our 8th widow to the congregation last week.  The funeral for Jackie's husband Howard, took place on Thursday, and we celebrated  his life at the Memorial Service on Saturday.

"We are of good courage, I say,
and prefer rather to be absent
from the body and to be
at home with the Lord."

-2 Corinthians 5:8

Howard was never famous or rich or very powerful, yet the Memorial Service was one of the richest and most joyful times I've ever had the privilege to participate in.

We celebrated his marriage of 56 and 1/2 years.  We rejoiced at his universally acknowledged character traits of honesty, integrity, hard-work, commitment, faithfulness and loyalty.  As far as his wife, three children, and five grandchildren were concerned ...Howard was ALWAYS THERE.
A part of me hopes those grandchildren will someday realize how rare and wonderful the character of their Grampa was.  Another part of me hopes that their lives will continue to be so blessed that they'll never truly know how rare Grampa was.  They'll just take it for granted.
Either way, at age 86, Howard is a part of a dying generation and, tragically, most of those character traits that best described Howard are dying with them.

Today's GodThoughtsWired! is a tribute to those of you in this world, young or old, who still acknowledgeright from wrong, and good from evil.

Howard did.
