WHY DOES THE CHURCH EXIST?

2

"Then I turned to see the voice that was
speaking with me. And having turned I saw
seven golden lampstands...and the
seven lampstands are the seven churches."
-Revelation 1:12,20, bold mine
God has placed the Church in this world to function as a "lampstand."

You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
nor does anyone light a lamp
and put it under a basket,
but on the lampstand, and
it gives light to all who are in the house."
-
Matthew 5:14-15, bold mine
Jesus told His followers that they were the "light of the world."  Thus, the Church is supposed to be a place where followers of Christ gather.

So what's their purpose?  What are the people of the Church supposed to do?
"Let your light shine before men in such a way
that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

-Matthew 5:16

Christians, true followers of Christ, are to live "in such a way" that the world will "see their good works" and, as a result, be drawn to God.

The problem with the world today can be summed up in one simple statement:

People call themselves Christians
without being followers of Christ.
The Bible explains it this way,
"They profess to know God,
but by their deeds they deny Him,
being detestable and disobedient
and worthless for any good deed."

-Titus 1:16
Thus, for the most part, today's "Church" has become...
"WORTHLESS."
