ON THE EARTH TODAY! 2 Yes, "Alien."  Jesus says of His followers in John 17:14,"They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world."  Wow!  In the world but not of the world.  A pretty high calling.  A pretty tough challenge.  John admonished the disciples further in this regard in his first letter from the isle of Patmos.  He said, "Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes  and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever." -1 John 2:15-17, bold mine The book of James tells us that friendship with the world is hostility toward God.  The Bible makes it clear that we cannot be a friend of the world (meaning the world's value system) and a friend of God at the same time...
