"Learning From the Legends"
More from Abraham
"And Abraham was called a friend of God."
2 Chronicles 20:7; Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23
Can you imagine? God calling you...His friend? Now there's a goal! How does something like that happen? Could it happen for you? Is it possible that one day, you too, might be called "A friend of God?" Let's take a look.
Actually, the process is simple. No, I didn't say it was easy - I said it was simple. A + B = C.
A. God called Abraham His friend (see 2 Chronicles 20:7; Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23).
B. Jesus defined "friendship" as one who is obedient to Him. "You are My friends if you do what I command you" (John 15:16).
C. Abraham "obeyed" God. My favorite example of this is found in the following scripture: "Now the Lord said to Abram (Abraham), 'Go forth from your country...so Abram went forth" (Genesis 12:1-4). Don't you love it? God said "do it" so Abraham "did it." No questions. No arguments. No complaints. Just simple, complete obedience.
Anyway, do you see it? God considered Abraham a friend because he fulfilled God's definition of a friend. God declares, "You are My friends if you do what I command you." Abraham did what God asked of him thus, Abraham was called a friend of God.
And you can be TOO!
