GodThoughts Wired!
"God Never Changes!"
CONCLUSION
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding."
Proverbs 3:5
I've often heard the "conviction of the Holy Spirit," (see John 16:8-11) defined as the human "conscience." This is terribly wrong. Our "conscience" is culturally defined and therefore, can change over time (or from culture to culture). Whereas, the conviction of the Holy Spirit does not change. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes, and forever" (see Hebrews 13:8). For example, Consider the following quotation taken from Time magazine, January 21, 1966:
"Homosexuality represents a misuse of the sexual faculty...
It is a pathetic little second-rate substitute for reality,
a pitiable flight from life. As such it deserves fairness,
compassion, understanding and, when possible, treatment..."
Time, January, 21, 1966, p. 41
Isn't this interesting? Forty years ago, American society viewed homosexuality* as "pathetic, pitiable," and deserving of "treatment." Today there are segments of America that believe being "gay" is normal and natural. My how times have changed! I'm curious, what shapes your beliefs? Culture? Media? Personal experience? Or the timeless (see Mark 13:31) word of God?
