"The Bible"
PART 6
The sixth of the nine essential components that give us a complete definition of the Bible is:
6. Eternal (without end).
"The word of God stands forever."
Isaiah 40:8
This is my favorite attribute of the Bible! Listen to the very words of Jesus:
"Heaven and earth will pass away,
but My words will not pass away."
Mark 13:31
The wise among us will invest heavily* in the word of God. Why? Because it is potentially an ETERNAL INVESTMENT! I say "potentially" because we need to be careful not to fall into the trap described by James, "Prove yourselves doers of the word and not merely hearers who delude themselves" (James 1:22). You've undoubtedly heard the phrase, "you can't take it with you"? Well, in most cases that's true. But not necessarily so with the scriptures.
You can...and WILL take it with you IF you heed the words of Joshua 1:8 as I mentioned in part 5:
Perennial meditation on the scriptures,
for the purpose of obedience to the word
will result in prosperity and success.
Both temporally (now) and eternally (see Mark 10:30).
"Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in Heaven" (Psalm 119:89). Oh, how I love that! Here on earth we struggle to figure things out; we struggle with unbelief (see Mark 9:24), but not so in Heaven...ALL IS SETTLED. Everything in Heaven is perfect; everything is righteous; everything is as it can and should be, in light of God's supreme and unquestioned authority. The Bible tells us that for now, "We see in a mirror dimly, but then (in Heaven) face to face" (see 1 Corinthians 13:12), nevertheless we have reason for great encouragement! Remember,
Through the promises of God we become "partakers of the divine nature" (see 2 Peter 1:4a).
The practice of the word enables us to "escape the corruption that is in the world by lust" (see 2 Peter 1:4b).

"The word of the Lord endures forever" (1 Peter 1:25). The wisest man of his generation once said, "Treasure my commandments within you" (Proverbs 2:1b). Why? Well, I think I've pretty-much answered that...haven't I?
* By "invest heavily in the word of God" I mean the reading, study, meditation, memorization and practice of the Bible.
